Welcome to my first lesson here on GMC. Todays topic is warming up, I will show you what I usually do to warm myself up before a show or recording and give you some ideas about possible variations that might make things a bit more interesting to play. You will come across lots of chromatic runs, scale fragments and a lot of alternate picking.

I always use this kind of exercises for warming up, before a gig, before recording, even before my practice routine.

Alternate picking etude.

This exercise is a warm up, like the humming in lesson 1 but with a little different in the melody. Different vowels have different effects on the voice. That is why the second lesson contains two exercises with different vowels.

Ten minutes of slow, quiet and gentle warming up should be enough. Let's start with some humming! Always start off with humming even if your voice feels fresh and ready to go. Gentle hum with your mouth closed.
